Artist Statement
My artistic practice is a perpetual journey of self-exploration and spiritual contemplation, an inquiry into the delicate interplay between inner states of darkness and light. Rooted in the framework of human existence, my work seeks to understand and share the profound significance of resilience through drawing and ceramic sculpture that bridges the ethereal and the tangible.
In my work, I explore the complexities of human experience, beginning this dialogue through monochrome charcoal drawings. Using an assemblage of panels to map a lifecycle of vulnerability and balance, these works are deeply informed by Buddhist philosophies of mindfulness and impermanence. In these drawings, thin, energetic lines interweave to capture the simultaneous chaos of our internal worlds. This exploration eventually evolved into a serendipitous encounter with ceramic sculpture—a transition I view not as a departure, but as a liberation. The abstract, coiling lines once trapped on the two-dimensional page have been lifted into the three-dimensional world, granted weight, volume, and substance.
Today, my practice is a physical translation: the interwoven movements previously captured in charcoal now manifest as organic ceramic forms. Each sculpture is a meticulously hand-built assembly of coiled tubes, strings, and cords—tentacle-like elements that have blossomed into vibrant, alive structures. The rhythmic act of molding, pinching, and weaving clay has become a meditative ritual and a physical manifestation of transmutation. As I work the earth, I engage in a therapeutic process where negative energy is reshaped into resilient structures of latent potential.
By translating the ephemeral language of the line into the permanence of fired clay, I transform a meditative ritual into a tactile reality. These forms stand as a testament to an ongoing journey of becoming, offering a tangible space to contemplate the relentless pursuit of understanding and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
